Library Expansion Plans Updated

The Library board has been working diligently with Group2 Architecture to finalize the details of the library expansion project. All of the concepts that went into the first phase of the concept designs have stayed the say, however the library board is happy to share an update on the layout of the library and the exterior drawings. Group2 is working on plans that will allow the library board to keep the existing trees next to the library as well as the most efficient ways of maximizing the space in the library. The Library board has also been working with the Olds Institute to integrate the future Community Engagement Site into the library plans as well as a showroom for the new Fiber to the home project coming to Olds. To view the updated plans click here. To find out more about the Fiber to the Home project visit the Olds Institute website http://www.oldsinstitute.ca/

Library Financing Secured

The Town of Olds is using its excellent financial position to secure financing for the expanded library.

Town councilors unanimously passed the required borrowing bylaw at the May 25 meeting should the need arise to borrow funds.

But Norm McInnis, the town’s chief administrative officer, said the borrowing may prove unnecessary.

There are several variables that still have yet to be worked out to determine how much the town will have to borrow, including what prices are when tenders are opened, how much money Mountain View County may be willing to contribute toward the project, and how much of a Community Facilities Enhancement grant will go to the capital portion and how much may go to furnishings and equipment for the library… (too read more visit the Olds Albertan Website http://www.oldsalbertan.ca/news4.html)

Library Board Enters into Negotiations for Temporary Location

The library board is currently in discussions for a location in downtown Olds. Due to the nature of the renovation the library will be relocating during the year when the construction of the new facility is underway. There will be a full complement of services in the temporary location. The library will be closed during one or two weeks at the end of the summer and beginning of September while the move occurs. We will be looking for volunteers to help with moving heavier furniture and are still in need of another cube van to use during the week we will be closed. Exact dates have not been decided for the move yet but we will be updated the webpage regularly.
