What is artsparks?
artsparks is a program that will be running through the Olds Municipal
Library as a pilot project. It is an innovative program that strives to create
meaningful arts experiences that positively affect the quality of life of its
participants.
The concept was born in Red Deer through the Red
Deer Public Library. artsparks markets extensively to the PDD community and
looks to ensure that barriers to participation are reduced. However, it does
not facilitate programming that is only for persons with disabilities; artsparks
is inclusive. It aims ultimately to offer programming that is open to everyone
in the community. Arts programs include, but are not limited to, the visual arts,
music, theatre, literary arts and film-making. For more information about the
amazing things going on in Red Deer with artsparks, please visit www.artsparks.org.
artsparks in Olds will arrange for artists to give classes and workshops in things
like drama, writing, poetry, music, movie-making and/or visual art. It is a way
for persons with developmental disabilities, and members of the community, to
be creative and make connections with local artists and arts organizations.
By providing the people of Olds and area with fully accessible arts programming,
artsparks makes a contribution to the wellness, vitality and diversity of our
community. By empowering people to engage in creative self-expression, artsparks
not only affects the lives of those individual artists, but also inspires teamwork
and community pride.
Who can take part?
Anyone can participate in the artsparks programming. The goal of the program
is that it will be inclusive and provide artistic inspirations to all members
of
the community regardless of race, skill, or cognitive ability. Classes will be
geared towards teens, adults and seniors.
Children wanting to be involved in library programming can visit our programming page for more information.
