Why Help Your Local Library?
At the Olds Municipal Library we strive to better where we live by acting as a hub for the community. We work hard to bring you quality programs that encourage learning and literacy and are dedicated to providing convenient access to resources that meet the lifelong information needs of the citizens of our community. In the age of information overload, your local library acts as a filter, making sure you find exactly what you're looking for. And if we can't find it, we'll find someone who can!

Unfortunately, without proper funding, no public service can continue to provide the quality of care directed by it's mandate. Since 1993, the Alberta Government has made severe cutbacks to all public services - not just its libraries - the effects of which are still being felt today. We must rely on our sponsors and Friends of the Library to help fill in the gap so we can bring you the services you want and need.

By donating to your local library you are helping to create a legacy of learning in your community that will extend beyond your simple contribution. Help us today to help you now and in the future.

How to Help

There are a number of ways by which to help your library serve you better. This can be a simple as donating an unwanted book to helping finance our infrastructure. Please see below for ways in which you can help.

The Olds Municipal Library now accepts donations through paypal. This makes it fast and easy for you to give your favorite library the help it needs to continue serving the community. All donations over $5.00 are eligible for a tax receipt. Receipts will be mailed out at the end of each year. We thank you for your support and look forward to continued service in the future.

Book Donation!
Donate a new or gently used book to our collection, and you may be eligible for a tax credit!
When you bring in a book for donation, we catalogue it to determine if it is suitable for our collection. If so, we issue you a tax credit for half the value of the book - the full value if it is only a few months old and brought in with the purchasing receipt. If we cannot use the book in our collection, we place it in our sale pile. We reget that sale books are not issued a tax credit.
Simply come in and drop off your books with your name and address; we'll do the rest.

Adopt a Subscription!
Adopt a subscription to your favourite periodical to your library and be eligible for a tax credit!
Love a particular magazine or other periodical, but disappointed your local library doesn't have it? Consider donating a subscription, and sharing it with the community. By doing so, not only will you enrich our collection, but you'll enrich the lives of your fellow citizens - and can help you save on your taxes too! Simply purchase a subscription to the periodical - be sure to have it sent to the library (our address is 5217 52 Street, Olds AB, T4H 1S8) - and bring us the receipt to receive your credit. Feel free to donate on behalf of a loved one, or in honour of a celebration! All donations are recognized with a book plate bearing the provider of the subscription. Want to donate, but don't have a particular subscription in mind? Come talk to our librarian and find out what magazines are most requested! Contact us for more information.

The Lois Hole Library Legacy Program
The Lois Hole Library Legacy Program invites friends to help build the collections in Alberta's libraries.
Donations may be more than merely a gift to your library and community. The Legacy Program allows for a donation in the donor's own name, or to honor a friend, family member or organization. Imagine if you will the pleasure that might derive from a decision to honor friends or family members in this way, while enriching the community through a donation. Give a gift that will make an enduring difference in your community:

  • Create a permanent tribute to someone dear to you, or a favorite organization, through a library donation to enable us to provide strong collections and current information for the benefit of our communities.
  • Recognize milestones or special occasions in the lives of friends and family members - such as birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, or retirements - through a library donation.
  • What will my money go toward?
At the Olds Municipal Library you will be able to request the material type and collection you would like to donate the money toward, or you may simply request a general donation. This program allows you as much or as little control over the direction your donation takes as you like.
    Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes! You will receive a tax receipt upon donating.
How will my donation be recognized?
You will have the opportunity to let us know who you are donating the material in honor of (e.g. in memory of someone) or as a gift (e.g. Christmas) in honor of someone you love, etc. A book plate bearing your donation message will be placed in each book purchased by your donation.

    Bricks for Books! Campaign
The Olds Municipal Library has undertaken an initiative to increase the effectiveness of our facilities. We hope to increase the space for our materials, technology, programs, storage and staff, to improve accessibility to the library and to ensure proper building maintenance. In short, we are expanding our library to meet our town's growing needs! For more information on our expansion, please see the main page, Expansion News.

Our first of several fundraising campaigns is Bricks for Books! Purchase a piece of the new library to honour or remember a loved one, celebrate a new birth, recognize a family name or business, or simply show your love for the library. There are three levels of donation: a brick, a foundation stone and a cornerstone. All donations will be recognized on a plaque display in our new facility.
To find out more, or to donate, please download our brochure (PDF format), or come in and talk to our library staff!

    Please Do Not Be Quiet!
We need your voice to be heard!

In 2004 the Library entered into discussion and planning to expand our facilities. Much has been done since this time to further the project: in 2005 the final concept was completed. In 2007 we applied for the CAMRIF grant program; we were denied funding.
Despite this setback, we forged ahead with Plan B an prepared a grant application for the Major Community Facilities Program with the Provinical government. This funding will allow our plans to move forward at an even faster pace. To achieve this goal, it is imperative we have the support of our MLA.

    How You Can Help:
Your government needs to see that the Citizens of Olds want the library expansion to happen! The best way to communicate this desire is still through the written word.
We ask that you write a letter to your MLA. Please let him know what the library means to you and that you would like to see his support for provinical funding.

    How To Contact Your MLA:
    Richard Marz, MLA

    Olds, AB T4H 1A4

    Corporate Sponsorship
We are always thankful when companies recognize the value of the library to the local community and their own projects. Please contact our librarian to find out how we can work together to strengthen our community. Currently we are looking for sponsors for our library expansion infrastructure. Show the community you care by donating to the library - we will name a new room in our library to recognize your contribution!
